Viveka Semlali was born in 1952 in the North of Sweden, above the Polar Circle. She is an artist who mainly works with oil paint and, on occasion, acrylics. Viveka draws inspiration from the magical northern landscapes, the soul-stirring Northern Lights, her Sami roots, and world travels. Bold colors, haunting characters, and dynamic yet ethereal compositions characterize her style. Viveka has three children: Amina, Monir, and Amir.
Vivekas' father, Helge Nissinen, was a painter known for his captivating depictions of the Sami tribes and landscapes in Northern Sweden and Finland. In addition to oil, Helge often used oil pastel crayons that he blended to create new hues. Vivekas' younger sister, Lisbeth Nissinen, is a sculptor who primarily uses clay as her medium. Her often humorous and quirky clay bust sculptures always evoke a lot of emotion.
